RE: Oops...

@#IT HAPPENS... We caught the bathroom door knob once when the slide was going out. We had left the door open so we could use the office on a trip.

RE: Using computer on the road

I thought somebody told me once that Nextel has a cable that you connect to your cellphone (with data service/internet) to a computer. Also needed a program on the computer to translate the phone info. I would think that the other services wuld have something similar.

RE: No tv when camping was I wrong.

We originally started with your opinion, that has changed. We have a seasonal site most home extras (sat.tv, appliances, dvd, play station and computer plus the cell phone), all are limited usage depending on the reason. Kids have friends to play with so rain and nights are pretty much the extent of use. They still play outside and do what kids do best; get dirty, hurt and in trouble so some of that new stuff helps prevent kids stuff. I don't think technology has hurt society as much as the lack of responsible parenting. I look at it as camping in style with the good life as we know it today. Technology has given us toilet paper and thousands of other things, not to mention RVs that move by a different form of horsepower than the old days.

RE: A Near Disaster

For safety reasons, I would junk the tank and buy a new replacement. At the minimum it should be hydrotested before filling and using again.

RE: Is city ordinances common ???

The town I live in is just now wanting to put something like this in place. A couple of new wanna-be politician moved into town and want to change what wasn't broken; they are the NIMBY type, don't do whats best for everybody, just want to look out for themselves...not that that's all bad. I understand the theory behind it but they are wanting to carry it to far and making it more of an issue that it really is.

RE: Predictions on Summer Gas Prices?

It's already $3.40-$3.50 here. I am using $4.00/gal for figuring out our trip. If it's less, I won't be disappointed.

RE: Waxing an Aluminium Camper

I wax mine by hand twice a year, spring and fall.
I keep hoping somebody here says you shouldn't wax them...that's the guy I want to listen to so I don't have to do it anymore.

RE: Dos Picos Fire Damage

I don't know if I would trust any of those sites. The view of my house was last up-dated sometime in mid-April '07; my TT is shown in the driveway and it's only there twice a year and I know it wasn't pictured in the fall. I would be nice if they showed a date when it was last up-dated.

RE: Do you get your moneys worth out of your seasonal???

Been at the same site for 5 years and love it for some of the same as above. We don't have to worry about cutting grass, it's in our cost; we just show up and turn the key and turn on the water.
I don't have a good place to leave my TT parked during the season so leaving it on site works well for us. The other positives include:
- I work a 24-hour shift every third day, so DW can take the kids camping every weekend with or without me
- CG is close enough to home that we can take the kids back home for extra-ciricular activities
- We get to camp 26 week-ends a year without setting up/breaking down camp

RE: Equalizer Setup on uneven pavement

I wouldn't worry about the side-to-side. I wouldn't even worry much about level ground as long as the front-to-back is straight, no crowns or dips. If I remember correctly, it's all about taking measurements and using your good eye doesn't hurt.

RE: seasonal camp site

We have a seasonal site and love it.. Kids have fun, we have made several new friends in our 2nd neighborhood. Best of all, it's about 25 miles from home and we can still work our regular hours and/or run the kids back for the extra ciricular activities when needed. I work a 24-hour shift so DW can go with the kids without me and I go the next day or DW close up on Sunday by herself. Most times we go Friday afternoon and come home late Sunday afternoon, no worries about setting up and breaking down camp, it's alway ready for the most part. We can still pull off site for vacation and the site remains ours, nobody else uses it.

RE: Trailer / Fifth Storage Chicago suburbs

No dought about it, you can still RV up here...for at least 6-month a year.
Depending on the town you choose; check with "city hall" to find out any ordiences, some are worse than others and some are trying to restrict RVs. Alot of area are put big homes on small lots that may not leave enough room to park everything (car and toys (Rvs and boats)) owned, most towns don't allow sidewalks to be blocked. There are also storage places around that allow trailers to be moved off/on throughout the year.
As for security, chances are you will be OK. You can always do a google search for that towns newspaper. If you come up, drive around and look at the general area. If your not travelling up to see for yourself, put out a thread of potential towns and ask people to PM you their opinions. No town is exempt to crime, some are just worse than others.

RE: SWAY

It can be caused by all of the above plus many other factors can combine to create a temporary sway (traffic) or a constant sway is likely to come from:
-incorrect hitch set-up
-TV/TT weights, either over or incorrectly distributed
-crosswind
-speed
-tires
-The list could go on...

RE: Your opinion on the following Oil Company comment.

Everybody has $$ invested in the big record profit oil companies for a retirement fund. Problem is, we (at least me and few others) may not make retirement 'cuz we are all stressed out about the cost of oil that is driving up of the cost of living and driving down the economy. So when we die of stress related illnesses and have not used all of our uncollected retirement $$$, who really wins?

RE: Your opinion on the following Oil Company comment.

My way of doing business has served me well. I have been handsomely rewarded for being benevolent. I have money in the bank, stocks, real estate and toys. I have a beautiful home and property that I come home to every day.
Every employee of mine is driving a new car. They have families that are happy. They enjoy coming to work and working with each other. They are as loyal to me as I to them. I love the way I do business.
I will gladly "not survive" in that kind of world.
When the economy is in the gutter, those gouging belong there to
What do I have to do and where do I get an application to work for you?

RE: Bug question ?

I believe they are the Asian Beetle, we have them here in Illinois. If you don't see you fabric eaten up, don't sweat it. Just don't squash them, they stink.
